Let’s hear it for the Bar B Que!! Edley’s Bar-B-Que is a local barbecue restaurant in the Nashville area with a number of locations. Our visit was to the Donelson location on Lebanon Road in a small strip shopping center whose small entrance in the front is actually the back of the restaurant with a large parking lot and main entrance located on the opposite back of the building.
With it’s open-air high ceiling building and exposed kitchen makes for a nice atmosphere. According to the management, when people say “BBQ” in Nashville, they are talking about slow smoked pork shoulder chopped to tender perfection. So, if you want BBQ, Edley’s is the place to go.
Their menu contains pork, chicken, wings and turkey, catfish along with a variety of salads and side. They are noted for their “Nashville Style BBQ” which means they season their cooked meats with a cayenne dry rub and finish it with a fiery habanero pepper sauce.
Customers order their meals from a counter at the entrance of the restaurant with the freshly cooked meals being delivered to your table. A giant blackboard is on display showing their full menu along with their specials. Ordering was quick and the waitress was prompt in delivering our meal.
As pulled pork is one of my favorite meals, I chose their pork platter which comes with cornbread and two sides. For my sides I chose the potato salad and baked beans. It was a scrumptious meal with a fairly large portion of pulled pork, enough for me to have a leftover carry out for a sandwich at home the next day. The potato salad and beans were cooked just right and tasty. I must confess that I am not a big fan of “Hot food” that Nashville has become famous. Fortunately, the hot peppers in the food were not too overbearing and I was happy with my meal. I admit that I had to take quick sip of my water at times during the meal because of the “hotness”. My daughter had the pork sandwich and a side of potato salad. She was very pleased with the meal and shared to a bite of the sandwich was great once you added the provided BBQ sauce which helped the somewhat dryness of the pork.
The wait staff was excellent providing prompt service with a smile. They quickly provided us with our carryout packages. They helped to make this a very nice dining experience.
Bottom line—Go for Edley’s hometown restaurants for that Nashville style barbecue!
