The Big Snow of 2024!

On Sunday night, January 14, 2024 and on Monday, January 15, we experienced the first snow of the winter season and it was a big one indeed!  The official depth of the snow was 8 inches which was the deepest snow we have had since we lived on Oakcrest Lane. The week following the snow contained several nights with temperatures around zero degrees. It was over a week before the snow was able to melt away.

Here is a photo of the front yard taken from the front door:

To illustrate the depth of the snow, take note of the snow piled on the small bird bath located in the front yard:

Hey, and the Channel 4 weatherman went live to my birthplace--the white building to the right of the two buildings with the blue canopies. That is the site of the old Cadiz Clinic, my official birthplace.

And in East Tennessee, the view from the Barr front porch with the snow landscape including the fence, barn and mountains in the background is more than the this family could ever dream of in this picture postcard scene.

And the kids enjoy the snow

And the inevitable sledding...

News Release January 5, 2024--from the University of Tennessee

James Barr Set For Induction Into TTFCA Hall of Fame

Track & Field January 05, 2024

Tennessee Associate Athletics Director of Event Management James Barr will be inducted as a member of the 15th annual Texas Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame class at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco. The ceremony is set for Friday, January 5, 2024 at 7 p.m. CT.

Barr was hired at Tennessee in July 2022 after 19 years with the University of Texas athletics department, where he rose to the position of Associate AD for Events and Game Operations. Texas promoted Barr to an assistant AD position in 2012, at which time he assumed oversight of the Texas Relays—the second-largest annual track & field meet in the United States.

A 2019 recipient of the University of Texas President's Outstanding Staff Award, Barr was named the 2013 USA Track & Field Meet Director of the Year. The Nashville native also was selected as the Honorary Referee at the 92nd annual Texas Relays in 2019.

Barr will be recognized for his superior meet management efforts alongside a roster of Texas track & field legends on Friday night in Waco. Additional inductees include Chris Beene, Willie Blackmon, Billy Foster, Wes Kittley, Ellen (Smith) Robinson, Raevyn Rogers and Darold Williamson.

In his current role in Knoxville, Barr has direct oversight of Tennessee Athletics' Events and Hospitality in addition to event management, which coordinates all gameday logistics for events spanning UT's 20 varsity sports and other special events.
